Hilton Head Family Travel Guide

We took our two girls for a long weekend in Hilton Head Island and loved everything about the laid back vibe and beaches. Hilton Head has little pockets of activities and scenery and there was plenty to do in the time we were there. The most impressive part of Hilton Head are the expansive beaches.

Where To Stay

We had points for Marriott and at the time we traveled stayed at the Marriott Beachfront Resort & Spa. The hotel has since been rebranded under Hilton –  Hilton Beachfront Resort & Spa. The lovely thing about the HH Marriott is the location! It’s right on the beach, in a central location and we easily bounced between pool and beach with the kids. I highly recommend this type of set up for the kids. Another location that I would book next time is The Sea Pines Resort. There are so many amazing amenities and it’s incredible kid friendly.

What To Do

Adventure Playground – Coligny Beach: This playground is pretty incredible! There’s a massive boat and other play areas steps away from the beach. Our kids did not want to leave!

Sea Pines: A little pocket of Hilton Head is a resort area called Sea Pines. This would definitely be an area I would look into for staying next time if we go back. In Sea Pines, there’s the Harbour Town LightHouse, dining, and tons of other amenities. We walked around the LightHouse area, went to the Salty Dog Cafe (outdoor dining with a view!), and played on their cute playground. It was a fun way to spend an afternoon and perfect for the kids!

Burnt Hill Distillery: We drove to the Burnt Hill Distillery on our way to Old Town Bluffton. We ordered some pizza and sat outside with the kids while we tried a beverage. It was worth a stop!

Old Town Bluffton: Bluffton was a charming town not far from HHI. We stopped at the playground, grabbed some food, and shopped. There are various parks to go to and beautiful scenery throughout.

Coastal Discovery Museum: This was such a nice outdoor activity for the kids. There are small tours you can do, lots of pretty scenery and activities for the kids!

Beach: One of the highlights of HHI are the beaches. We loved visiting during low tide and the kids ran in the shallow water. We spent some time each day at the beach or pool.

Mini Golf: Always a hit with the kids! We went to the Pirate’s Island Adventure Golf for some evening fun.

Where To Eat

There are a lot of casual places and outdoor dining throughout the island. We enjoyed the Salty Dog Cafe and Java Burrito Company for lunch. One Hot Mamas (yummy barbecue), Skull Creek Dockside, and Hudsons for dinner. Delisheeyo was a fun stop for Acai bowls and we had one yummy classic breakfast at Palmetto Bay Sunrise Cafe.

We squeezed in family photos with Kit Carpenter and would highly recommend if you are in HHI! (last photo was taken by her!)
